Thermocouples

ECOMAX | Mineral Oxide Insulation Thermocouples
Temperature probes are basically two wires with particular thermoelectric features, electrically insulated from each other and from the external protection body.
The most significant input data needed to design a temperature probe are operative temperature range and working conditions.
This type of temperature gauge is very reliable and quickly responding. Depending on their various construction features, they are individually optimized to fully fit in a great number of industrial applications.
MgO-insulated thermocouples are made of two or more wires, inside a highly compacted MgO insulation powder.
We can use different construction materials for the external metallic body, according to the specific working conditions.
MgO-insulated thermocouples are manufactured and tested according to ASTM E608, and comply to ANSI MC 96.1 or DIN 43710 standards.
Types of MgO thermocouples
| Type | Sensor Element | Insulation | Body material | External diameter mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E | Chromel/Constantan | MgO | AISI 304 - 900 C | 0.25 - 0.5 - 1 - 1.5 - 2 3 - 4.5 - 6 - 8 -12.7 |
| J | Iron/Constantan | AISI 310 - 1150 C | ||
| K | Chromel/Alumel | AISI 316 - 926 C | ||
| R | Pt 13% Rh/Platinum | AISI 321 - 900 C | ||
| T | Copper/Constantan | INCONEL 600 - 1150 C |
Standard junctions of sensitive elements
| UNGROUNDED JUNCTION | ![]() |
The sensing junction between the leads is totally insulated both electrically and mechanically from the body. Main application is in very hard-working conditions (with vibrations, thermal shocks, chemically aggressive environment, etc.) under which it provides a long working life. |
|---|---|---|
| GROUNDED JUNCTION | ![]() |
The sensing junction between the leads is directly welded on the body. This solution allows a good performance under pressure, high humidity and mechanical stress. Also, it is particularly recommended to get a fast response. |
| EXPOSED JUNCTION | ![]() |
Fast responce is the feature of this junction. It is recommended for measurement of gas or solid surfaces in non-corrosive environment. |
Thermocouples working ranges
The temperature range depends on the thermocouple type, see below diagram:
